This city of 8,300 is just east of Courtenay, about half way up the east coast of Vancouver Island. Comox is best known to most Canadians for its Canadian Forces Base, home of the 19th Wing, which surveils and defends the West Coast. The town has a beautiful view of glacier-capped Mount Washington, which rises a mile into the air (accessible from Campbell River)

Annual Events

Filberg Festival (first weekend in August, at Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park) features an arts & crafts show featuring woodworking, weaving, pottery and entertainment.

Features a 1929 lodge restored and furnished to that period, sitting on 9 acres of landscaped grounds, including magnolia and cedar trees. There is a hands-on animal farm open June through August. Allow 1 hour. Park is open 8 am to dusk, lodge is open Jun - Labour Day 11 am to 5 p, and should season Easter the Thanksgiving Sat & Sun 11 am to 5 pm. Admission $3.
