Sports: Victoria's Competitive Sports scene
Victoria has some great opportunities to watch somebody ELSE sweat it out, with some top-level competitive athletes.
Victoria RebelsThis football team plays at the Royal Athletic Park
against other teams in the British Columbia Junior Football Association. The
team began in 1971 as the Victoria Dolphins, but became inactive in 1980. In 1985, the Victoria
Hornets, became active at the Junior level and under full sponsorship became the
"Victoria Payless", then the Vancouver Island Sharks in 1994. In 1997, they changed their name again to the Victoria Rebels.
UVIC Vikes Each of University of Victoria's varsity teams are called
the "Vikes" (short for Vikings). They have teams for both men's and womens
basketball, running, soccer, swimming, and volleyball, as well as women;s
field hockey and men's rugby. Their teams and team members regularly play on
the national squads in their sports.
Victoria Salsa play in the British Columbia Hockey League
(BCHL), a division of the Canadian Junior "A" Hockey League, against
16 other teams with players (16 - 20 years old). They play in the Memorial

Victoria United Soccer Club is a soccer team in the Pacific Coast Soccer
League (PCSL), run by volunteer members of the Victoria United Soccer Association.
The home field for Victoria United is Royal Athletic Park (at Cook & Caledonia
Streets, downtown) with general admission seating is general admission on wooden
benches (covered or uncovered).
Victoria Shamrocks are in their their 50th Western Lacrosse Association
season and play in Memorial Arena. (250) 361-0536.
Western Speedway has a 4/10 Mile paved Oval track and a 500 foot drag
strip, and has been part of Victoria's racing scene since 1954 (it's Western Canada's oldest)
First class seating for 4,000 fans on the main straight, paved parking for 1,500
cars, welcome race fans on Saturday nights and holidays, and drag strip fans on
Sundays, with 34 events from mid March to late October.(250) 474-2151.
